Rothenburg and an R8.

Today's exploration was one of our overall favorite. Brooke loved the town of Rothenburg, and it would not surprise me if we decided to build a moat around our own home someday. Going to Rothenburg, is like stepping into a time machine an journeying to medieval times.   It was beautiful town with a wall completely surrounding it. In this picture you can see us just before we entered the town for the first time. We love Rothenburg!

This is just a shot of some of the buildings so you can get an idea of the   architecture.

In Rick Steves' books he talks about his friend Anneliese. She runs a store there and is super nice. Her husband and her have travelled all over the world. She found out we were from Idaho and she described perfectly the routes of the Snake and Salmon rivers. She has also journeyed Route 66 and I would bet she knows U.S. geography better than most Americans.

Here is another portion of the town, the buildings were so beautiful and they were  full of character.

Brooke snapped this picture in the Kathe Wohlfahrt Christmas store.  It is a huge Christmas store you walk in and it feels like December, literally Christmas in July. The store was very expensive, we still got one ornament (the cheapest we could find) for our future Christmas trees. Also it  is against the rules to take pictures in there, Brooke was super sneaky with this.

Here we are atop the Rothenburg ramparts. You are able to completely walk the outside of the town atop the walls!

Another view of us along the ramparts, this one gives you a better view of how they wrap around the town.

In the market square this guy was selling fresh pressed apple cider, we couldn't pass it up, however it was not nearly as good as Uncle Mike's cider.

These are the famous treat of Rothenburg, they are called Schneeballs. We got some and are not really that impressed. I guess they have something to with in the past not being able to have a lot of extra money for sweets, so people would save excess dough and make these. They didn't taste bad just crunchy dough with powdered sugar and different kinds of chocolate coating.

This was just outside the museum of crime and punishment. We did not have time to go in, but it is one place that is highly recommended.

Another picture of some of the buildings theses two were just next to the town square.

As we were leaving Rothenburg we saw this cute home and could not pass up taking a picture of it. One thing is for certain of you find yourself in Germany, find yourself in Rothenburg at some point.

This is a little bonus feature to the town of Rothenburg, as we were walking in we saw this place were you could drive an exotic car on the autobahn for a nominal fee. I had inner turmoil here because his is one thing one my bucket list: drive on the autobahn. However, the one car available to drive was an Audi R8 (which I would har chosen anyway, we are in Germany), the R8 only has 2 seats and you must drive with an instructor. I wanted Brooke to go with me, however Brooke being te amazing wife that we is talked me into driving anyways, and I am glad I did.

The R8 was fast. I was able to go 260 kilometers an hour. The car was still pulling as well. I would have gone faster, but slow drivers kept passing and getting in my way, I mean they should know there is an Audi R8 behind them going for a land speed record. It was the thrill of a lifetime! By the way 260 kilometers an hour equals about 161 miles per hour. Not bad at all for a first time drive on the autobahn

That blue sign up there is the symbol or Autobahn. I hope to return some day and break my personal speed record.
